A young Pools Reserve Team were beaten 4-0 in their latest Central League outing against Morecambe at The Globe Arena on Wednesday.
Ian McGuckin’s youthful line-up were always going to be up against it with The Shrimps including several First Team players in their line-up for the contest.
The home side grabbed the opening goal of the game on 23 minutes when Greg Wilde was allowed to travel to the edge of the box before curling a fine strike in to the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
Vadaine Oliver then doubled the Morecambe lead from close range, pouncing on a loose ball six yards out after Ryan Catterick had parried Ben Hedley’s header.
It was 3-0 to the hosts after the break when Reece Deakin got on the end of a cross from the left to divert a lovely looping header over Catterick and in to the far corner of the net.
And Deakin helped himself to a second goal when an incisive ball from Aaron Wildig put the forward through on goal and he tucked a neat finish past Catterick with his left foot.
“I think their experience was the difference,” admitted McGuckin afterwards.
“We did have a few opportunities to break and cause problems on the counter-attack and we had our moments but we couldn’t capitalise on them.
“We were quite resilient in terms of our defending at times but their extra power and experience definitely came through in the end and it proved too much for us.”
