Pools Youth Team are the focus on Saturday when they travel to face Wigan Athletic in the Northern Area Final of the Youth Alliance League Cup (12noon kick-off).
Ian McGuckin’s youngsters have been superb in the cup competitions this season and have enjoyed an excellent run to the Final where they will face-off against a talented Latics outfit.
Wigan currently sit top of their North West Division having won 16 of their 20 league games so far this season so McGuckin knows the game will prove a tough challenge.
“We’ve upset the odds a few times in the cup competitions this season so we’re going there with confidence,” he insisted.
“The young lads have done us proud getting to the Northern Area Final which is a nice reward for the hard work they’ve put in but we still want to go and win the game.
“We’ve done well in the FA Youth Cup this term, the majority of the youngsters were involved in the run to the semi-finals of the Durham Challenge County Cup and now we want to book our place in the National Final of the Youth Alliance Cup.
“It won’t be easy because Wigan are used to winning this season and will be a strong side but we have shown no fear of anyone this season so we will just go there and play our game.”
The game takes place at Wigan’s Christopher Park training ground at 12noon with the winners set to go through to a National Final to meet either Luton Town or Oxford United who also play on Saturday.
