Matthew Bates insisted Pools were full value for their three points on Tuesday night as they stretched their unbeaten run to four games with victory over Bromley.
The caretaker boss was delighted to see goals from Josh Hawkes and Michael Woods secure a second win in succession and help Pools move five points clear of the bottom four.
“I’m very pleased and I’ve told them that in the dressing room,” Bates told Pools PlayerHD.
“Since I have come in they have given me everything and they did again tonight. I thought the first half performance wasn’t only the best this season but possibly the best since I’ve been at the Club.
“The lads were magnificent and got done with a sucker-punch right at the end of the first half and the message then was to make sure we didn’t let it affect us.
“I just tried to concentrate on the positives because it was a very positive first half. We weren’t as good in the second half but it was still up there.
“I thought Josh (Hawkes) was great; I’ve always had question marks about him defensively but he did that today and in possession of the ball his decision-making was magnificent.
“I think that’s put us one point behind Maidstone so we’ll be going there full of confidence; I’ve set the lads a task to see how long we can stay unbeaten for and we want that to continue.”
