Matthew Bates has told his players that they must maintain the work ethic and determination that was on show at Aldershot Town in midweek when they host Boreham Wood this weekend.
The caretaker boss was pleased with the way his side went about things against The Shots in midweek and is backing them to bounce back to winning ways if they reproduce that level on Saturday.
It certainly won’t be straight-forward against a Boreham Wood outfit who have won four of their last five games to push themselves right in to contention for promotion to the EFL.
However, Bates has seen enough improvement in his squad to know that they can be a match for anyone and has demanded that they keep their standards high this weekend.
“There were plenty of positives on Tuesday night so what we’re trying to do is kick-on from that,” Bates told Pools PlayerHD.
“You can’t hide from the fact we lost but it’s not always about that, it’s about building something while I am caretaker and Tuesday was a building block,
“Hopefully that gives the lads a bit of confidence that it worked, the tactical changes had an impact and it will be similar on Saturday with perhaps a few little changes.
“The basic principles and things I want set in stone will be the same – work harder than the opposition, keep the ball when we can, get it forward when we can and get runners in the box.
“If we put up another performance like we did on Tuesday, and I expect us to, then there’s no reason why we can’t get a result on Saturday.
“The fans want to see the players playing with pride and desire, and trying to win matches – that’s what I am demanding from the lads, that’s what they have to give and if they don’t then there’ll be trouble.”
