We look ahead to Tuesday night's National League action as Pools make the long trip to The Ebb Stadium.

Vanarama National League
Tuesday 6th March 2018, 7.45pm
The EBB Stadium

In Opposition
Aldershot Town have driven themselves in to contention for at least a play-off spot with a run of just one defeat in their last 11 National League outings lifting them to fourth in the table.

Gary Waddock’s men put together a similarly impressive sequence of results towards the end of last term when they squeezed in to the top five only to be beaten by Tranmere Rovers in the play-off semi-finals.

Whereas last season’s success was built upon solid foundations and an excellent defensive record, The Shots have added more firepower this time around and are among the top scorers in the division.

The experience of Waddock in the dugout has obviously been a key factor; the former Queens Park Rangers and Wycombe Wanderers boss returned for a second spell in charge of The Shots in May 2016 after leading them to the Conference North title in a previous stint between 2007 and 2009.

One To Watch
Shamir Fenelon has returned to the Town line-up in recent weeks after an injury concern and got back among the goals when he netted in their 2-2 draw at Wrexham last Saturday.

The 23-year-old former Brighton & Hove Albion trainee hit the ground running with goals in each of the first three games of the season and has gone on to hit double figures for the first time in his career.

Continuing to provide chances to the talented front man will be a priority in the closing stages of the campaign and Pools will need to make sure that supply line is cut off on Tuesday evening.

Head To Head
Tuesday night’s game will be the 58th competitive meeting between the two sides but the first played in Aldershot for almost 27 years.

The Shots’ 2-0 win at The Vic in November was the first encounter between the clubs in the league since the 1990/91 campaign though Pools did beat them 5-1 at home in the FA Cup in 2004/05 thanks to goals from Chris Westwood (2), Adam Boyd (2) and Mark Tinkler.

Last time the sides shared a division Pools did the double over Aldershot, Joe Allon scoring in a 1-0 win at The Vic in October 1990 before running out 5-1 victors in the return fixture the following March thanks to a hat-trick from Paul Dalton and goals from Allon and John Tinkler.

Christopher Pollard will take charge of his first-ever Pools game on Tuesday night when he’s the man in the middle for our trip to Aldershot Town.

In his first season on the National League list of referees, Pollard has presided over seven league games so far during the 2017/18 campaign.

His most recent league appointment came back in October when he took charge of Macclesfield Town’s 1-0 win at Leyton Orient.
