We get to know young defender Kenton Richardson a little better by having him answer our Firsts and Lasts questions.
What was the name of your first pet?
Jake. He’s a cavapoo, a cross between a spaniel and a poodle. We still have him now, he’s a great dog. He’s little and cute!
What was your first car?
I still have my first car now, it’s a little brown Polo. I only passed my test last April so I got the car then. It was a Christmas present from my mam and dad, which was nice! It’s quite nippy!
What was your first holiday abroad?
It was actually to go and see my sister, Gemma, who lives in Italy. We first went over there when I was about 12 to visit here in Maranello. She used to teach English to Italian children but initially moved out there because her husband works for Ferrari.
What was the first gig you went to see?
You know what, I haven’t actually been to one! I am not really in to music and I can’t say I have ever even been to see a comedian or anything either. I am not making this easy for you, am I? Haha!
What was the first match you went to see?
It was a Sunderland game. I think they played Wigan and me and all my mates got tickets to go with our school. I actually supported Liverpool when I was growing up but I have only been to a few games, usually when they’re playing up here against Middlesbrough or Sunderland.
What was the first football shirt you owned?
It was a Sunderland shirt. My family are all keen Sunderland fans so they bought me a full kit. I couldn’t be persuaded though, I have always been a Liverpool fan. I started supporting them because I really liked Steven Gerrard when I was younger.
Who was your first best friend?
It was a lad called Nathan Prince who I went to primary school with. I still speak to him quite a lot now and he’s all set to move away to University soon but I am sure we’ll stay in touch.
When was the first time you realised you might turn pro?
I don’t know really, it all happened quite quickly and I wasn’t really thinking about it. I just concentrated on taking one step at a time, concentrating on my Youth Team games and then trying to impress in the Reserves to push for the First Team. It was an amazing feeling to be told I was getting a professional deal.
What was your first match as a pro footballer?
It was Mansfield Town away. Liam Donnelly got a knock during the first half so when I was warming-up at half-time someone came out and gave me the shout that I was coming on. I was so nervous but excited too. Coming out of the tunnel for the half was amazing and I just tried to take it all in and concentrate on doing the simple things well.
Who was your first football manager?
The first team I played for was a junior team in Bowburn and it was managed by my friend’s dad, Matthew Rushton. We were only really young but I remember he used to get very animated on the touchline, shouting and screaming. He’s a good bloke and we had a very good team – quite a few went on to get places in Academies.
What is the last thing you watched on TV?
I have actually just been watching Modern Family before I started doing this interview. It’s not something I would usually have on but have been flicking around the channels and it came on. I am usually watching a boxset of something.
What was the last thing that made you laugh?
I watched Kevin Bridges on the television last night, it was one of his comedy shows, and it had me really laughing. I would love to go and watch him do stand-up, I would say him and Lee Evans are my favourite comedians.
What did you do for your last birthday?
Well, it was my 18th birthday so I went for my first proper night out with a group of my friends. I am pleased to say I can remember most of it! With the family it was quite quiet because my sister was over from Italy so we just had some time together at home.
What is the last thing you took a photo of?
I’ll just check my camera… Ha, the most recent one was one I took of my dog. I don’t even know why I took it, he was just sat next to me so I got a snap of him
What is the last thing you ate?
I had Crunchy Nut Cornflakes. That’s the standard breakfast for me, that or Weetabix. I actually get funny looks at training because when I eat Weetabix I tip milk on it and then immediately pour it back off. I am not really a big fan of milk so I only put it on to give it a bit of moisture. The lads laugh at me when I do it though!
What is the last thing you drank?
I had a cup of tea with my breakfast. I love tea actually, I usually have at least five cups of tea a day.
What is the last item of clothing you put on before a match?
Probably my shirt. I don’t really have any superstitions about what order I put clothes on before a game, but I would say the shirt is the last thing I put on.
