Bates Names Strong Team To Face Sunderland

Matthew Bates welcomes Luke James back to The Vic

New signing Luke James is among the substitutes for this afternoon’s pre-season friendly against Sunderland at Victoria Park (3pm kick-off).

Matthew Bates has named a strong starting eleven for the game against The Black Cats, with summer arrivals Myles Anderson, Mark Kitching, Liam Noble and Niko Muir all making their bows at The Vic.

The Pools boss is also taking the opportunity to run the rule over Greek trialist Dimitris Gioukoudis, while Jack Munns is back on the bench after injury but Aaron Cunningham and Paddy McLaughlin remain sidelined.

Sunderland boss Jack Ross has also selected a strong starting eleven with several of his new signings handed time on the pitch this afternoon, while former Pools loan man Andrew Nelson is on the bench.
