Matthew Bates has revealed that he will play two different elevens during Saturday’s opening pre-season friendly at Billingham Town (12noon kick-off).
The Pools boss will use the game as an opportunity to cast his eye over the majority of his players with the plan being to change the entire line-up during the half-time break.
After a fortnight of hard work in the sunshine at the Club’s new training base at East Durham College in Peterlee, Bates is now eager to get some game time in to his squad and is looking forward to the runout.
“It’s been a long two weeks so it will be good to get back in to the game programme,” Bates told Pools PlayerHD.
“The fixture gives us chance to have a look at the lads and the fans a chance to see the new signings in action and we will have a look at a couple of new shapes tomorrow to see how they work.
“These early games are good because you can split the teams up so it will be a different eleven for each 45 minutes and a nice gradual build-up to Sunderland next weekend.
“Hopefully plenty of fans can come along and we can enjoy a Hartlepool win followed by an England win straight afterwards!”
Jack Munns and Aaron Cunningham are the only two players likely to miss out on Saturday after they both picked up slight knocks in training.
Admission prices for Saturday’s game at £5 for adults and £3 for concessions and our hosts are also welcoming all fans in to their bar to watch the England v Sweden game.
