Pools’ stunning comeback win at Peterborough United in 2003/04 has topped a fans poll as our most memorable opening day game of recent times.
We opened the voting to fans on our Twitter page on Monday and over the course of 24 hours no fewer than 62% of you chose the 4-3 triumph in the sun at London Road as your favourite.
In what was Neale Cooper’s first game in charge, Pools fell 3-1 behind to Peterborough but eventually ran out winners thanks to a stoppage time screamer from Michael Nelson.
In second place in the vote was the 3-1 win at Carlisle United on the opening day of what turned out to be a promotion season of 2002/03, while the 4-2 win over Colchester United at the start of our 2008/09 League One campaign was third.
We’ve uploaded highlights from the game at Peterborough United so click on the video above to take a look back on the action on what was a memorable afternoon.
The fixtures for the new National League season will be revealed here on the Official Website from 1pm.
