The Shay

In Opposition
FC Halifax Town currently occupy 20th spot in the National League but they know that victory over Pools on Tuesday night would see them leapfrog Craig Harrison’s men in the table.

However, they’ve not tasted league victory since before Christmas when they thumped Chester 4-0 and they’ve lost three of their last four outings, including Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Ebbsfleet United.

Billy Heath was replaced in the hotseat at the end of January, with The Shaymen’s Head of Scouting, Neil Young, taking temporary charge of First Team affairs.

Pools will be seeking to complete their first league double of the season after hammering Halifax 4-0 at The Vic in November thanks to goals from Nicky Deverdics, Liam Donnelly, Rhys Oates and Conor Newton.

One To Watch
Having hit double figures this season in a struggling side, Tom Denton is the definite one to watch for The Shaymen in Tuesday night’s game.

The 28-year-old forward was drafted in from North Ferriby in the summer of 2016 and has been a reliable source of goals ever since and is a player Pools will need to keep an eye on.

Head To Head
Pools have a long history against Halifax Town in their previous guise, having come up against Town some 122 times prior to the current campaign.

It’s a fixture which has brought joy for Pools in the most recent meetings – we beat them 4-0 at The Vic earlier this season and also did the double over them the last time we shared a division back in 2001/02.

Indeed Pools are unbeaten in their last seven meetings with The Shaymen, going back to their 2-0 win at The Vic in August 1999.

Referee
Marc Edwards will take charge of his second-ever Pools game on Tuesday night when he’s the man in the middle for our encounter with FC Halifax Town.

Another official who is in his first season on the National League list of referees, Edwards oversaw our 2-1 defeat to Eastleigh at The Vic back in September.

He’s taken charge of thirteen games so far this term and his more recent outing came at the weekend when he presided over Maidenhead United’s 3-1 win at Guiseley.
