Pools Youth Team were second best at the weekend as they were beaten 3-0 by a powerful Chesterfield side at Welfare Park in Blackhall.
The visitors raced in to a three-goal lead by half time to effectively end Pools’ chances of a second successive win, though Ian McGuckin’s youngsters rallied after the break when it proved a more even contest.
Chesterfield were out of the blocks quickly and went in front with only eight minutes on the clock when a long diagonal ball caught the Pools defence square and Brandon Howard found the net.
Luke Rawson was in the right place at the right time to double The Spireites’ lead after Charlie Wakefield’s initial effort came back off the post.
And it was front man Rawson who nabbed the third goal too when he combined with strike partners Levi Amantchie before converting with a tidy finish to make it 3-0.
“They were physically dominant from the start and began very aggressively,” admitted McGuckin afterwards.
“The game was more or less over at half time with Chesterfield 3-0 up but credit to the lads they kept on going, showed a bit of character and salvaged some pride in the second half.”
