Preview: Pools v Woking

16 February 2018

We turn our attentions to the weekend action with a full and in-depth preview of Woking's trip to Victoria Park.

Hartlepool United v Woking
Vanarama National League
Saturday 17th February 2018, 3pm
Victoria Park

In Opposition
Woking have emerged from a tricky run of form to enjoy back-to-back victories over AFC Fylde and Chester on home soil in recent weeks.

The Cards’ last National League win was back in November so those results have given a timely boost to boss Anthony Limbrick ahead of Saturday’s long trip to the North East.

Woking finished 18th last term before turning to former Southampton Academy coach Limbrick during the summer and they enjoyed a fruitful start to the season.

They remain ten points shy of a play-off spot but if they can return to the form they showed during the first half of 2017/18 then they could yet have a say in the promotion shake-up.

One To Watch
Kane Ferdinand is a key part of the Woking engine room and is more than capable of chipping in with goals from midfield to help the team.

The 25-year-old former Southend and Peterborough star has featured in all but two of The Cards’ National League fixtures this season and is a likely starter at The Vic this weekend.

A player with plenty of Football League experience, Pools can’t afford to let him stamp his influence on the game when Anthony Limbrick’s men arrive in the region on Saturday.

Head To Head
The 1-1 draw between the sides at Kingfield Stadium back in September is the only other time Pools and Woking have met in competitive action.

Saturday will be the third time this season that Pools have been officiated by Simeon Lucas when he’s on the whistle for Woking’s visit to The Vic.

His last trip to The Vic came back in the opening month of the campaign when he saw us beaten 2-0 by AFC Fylde, while he was also the man in the middle for our goalless draw at Boreham Wood in November.

Lucas is in his first year on the National League list of referees and has overseen 13 league games so far this term, his latest appointing coming in Gateshead’s 0-0 draw with Wrexham just over a fortnight ago.
