A young Pools Reserve team were beaten 5-2 at York City this afternoon.
Matthew Bates’ side had started the game strongly, taking a 2-0 lead inside the first fifteen minutes, with Lewis Orrell opening with a low effort from the edge of the box on just five minutes.
Jon Weirs made it 2-0 on eleven minutes with a good low strike past the York keeper and Pools held onto the two-goal lead until after the half-hour mark.
And it was a familiar face who pulled one back for the hosts, as former Pools striker Connor Smith headed home on 33 minutes to make it 2-1.
Bates’ side held the lead going into the break but the second half was a different story as York City took hold of the game.
Trialist ‘A’ for York equalised on 52 minutes and went on to bag a hat-trick, with two further goals in the 60th and 69th minutes.
With an own goal in the 64th minute, the hosts had chances to add to their tally with chances for Smith and Gray before the end of the match.
