Richard Money praised his players for their efforts in difficult conditions as they ran out 1-0 winners at Leamington during his first game in charge to book a place in Round Two of the FA Trophy.
Ryan Donaldson’s brilliant solo goal twenty minutes in to the second half was enough to settle a hard-fought encounter, played out in miserable conditions at The Phillips 66 Community Stadium.
“I think we deserved it, there’s no doubt about that,” Money told Pools PlayerHD.
“It was very windy, heavy rain so it was tough conditions for both teams but the pitch played well and I thought the application was good and we did okay at times.
“In the final third we were a bit loose; the crossing wasn’t very good and we didn’t have enough clear-cut chances but it was a great goal that won it from Donaldson.
“It’s tough though. Away from home, inclement conditions, against a team from the league below when everything is set up for an upset but we’ve won 1-0 and that’s the most important thing.
“I thought the back four were good and Harvey Rodgers had an outstanding debut - we looked solid and we looked big and strong which is nice to see.
“I don’t know exactly how many games it is to get to the Final but that’s one chalked off and you can very quickly get close to Wembley and we’d really like to go there, for sure.”
