Young Pools star Aaron Cunningham made his Blyth Spartans debut at the weekend as they thrashed Chester 8-1 at Croft Park.
The versatile 20-year-old started for Alun Armstrong’s side and played the full 90 minutes during which they ran riot against a hapless Chester outfit.
Cunningham has had to be patient in waiting for his Spartans bow as he served a suspension following the red card he was shown on his Pools debut at the end of last season.
But the whole-hearted youngster more than made up for lost time and enjoyed a start to remember in the green and white stripes of Blyth.
Two former Pools players – Kieran Green and Nathan Buddle – also got on the scoresheet during Spartan’s demolition of their visitors.
Meanwhile, young Pools keeper Ryan Catterick was not given permission to play for Guisborough Town as they kicked-off their FA Cup campaign with an enthralling 3-3 draw against Newton Aycliffe.
