Ian McGuckin is backing his Youth Team players to keep on improving as they prepare to host Scunthorpe United in the Youth Alliance League at Blackhall on Saturday (11.30am kick-off).
After drawing 2-2 in an entertaining opening day encounter with Burton Albion, McGuckin feels encouraged about the season that lies ahead for his young players.
The performance against The Brewers provided plenty of positives and now he wants to see them progress further when they return to action this weekend.
“The lads are looking forward to it,” McGuckin told us.
“We want to build on what we did last week; it was a good performance and possibly warranted a win if we’re being honest but now we want to get the three points on board on Saturday.
“It’s a young group of players, heavy on First Year Scholars, but that’s where we’re hoping that the level of experience they got last season will give them a head start.”
Aaron Willoughby is making good progress in his recovery from a groin strain but Saturday will come too soon and Josh Bayne will sit out due to concussion.
We’ll have a full report and reaction from the game here on the Official Website on Monday.
