In Opposition
Four defeats from the last five have threatened to derail Sutton United’s attempts to reach the Football League and they’ve earmarked Saturday’s game with Pools as a “must-win” fixture.

The U’s were right in the mix for automatic promotion and just two points behind leaders Macclesfield Town following a 1-0 win over Solihull Moors a month ago.

However, they’ve struggled for form since then and come in to the weekend’s meeting with Pools on the back of three straight defeats which mean they’re still battling to cement a play-off spot.

After finishing 12th last season in their first year back at this level, Sutton now have their eyes firmly on the EFL and have confirmed plans to spend £300,000 laying a grass pitch should they achieve promotion.

One To Watch
Craig Eastmond has hit back from an ankle injury sustained at the end of Sutton United’s 1-1 draw at Victoria Park in October to become one of their key players in the drive for promotion.

The former Arsenal youngster provides some real craft in the Sutton engine room and has been a virtual ever-present since returning to the side in December.

The U’s have just recalled Ross Lafayette to their ranks following a loan spell at Maidstone United and Eastmond’s job will be to help provide the service for him and top scorer Tommy Wright during the run-in.

Referee
David Rock will take charge of his second Pools game this weekend when he’s the man in the middle for our trip to Sutton United.

The experienced official is in to his fourth season on the National League list of referees and has overseen 24 fixtures at our level this term.

His only other Pools appointment came back in October when he saw us win 2-0 at Torquay United, while his most recent outing was at Boreham Wood where Macclesfield Town won 2-0 on Tuesday.
