Pools Youth Team are back in action on Wednesday lunchtime when they host Oldham Athletic in the Youth Alliance League at The Racecourse in Durham (1pm kick-off).
Ian McGuckin will once again hand opportunities to a number of the Club’s Under-16 players when they welcome The Latics to the north-east.
The youngsters performed well when they were asked to step up a level against Bradford City last time out in the league and McGuckin is looking for more of the same in their latest fixture.
“We need to try and build on what was a positive performance against Bradford,” he insisted.
“The result might have gone against us in the end but it was only 3-2 and there were loads of plus factors from the way we played.
“I was really pleased with the way the young lads coped with stepping up a level; they competed well and made a good game of it, which was really pleasing.
“Obviously I think there was some naivety but overall they did really well so getting more experience at this level will serve the Under-16s well and stand them in good stead for next season.”
McGuckin will welcome full-back Jack Cooper back in to contention after injury but Liam Pritchard is a doubt after missing training with a virus recently.
