In Opposition
It’s approaching ten years since Wrexham were relegated from the Football League but many fans are tipping this term to be the one that finally sees them earn back their place.

The North Wales outfit were entrenched in mid-table last season but boss Dean Keates has recruited impressively during the summer and they have made an encouraging start to 2017/18.

Three wins in a row as August turned in to September have helped take The Dragons towards the top of the table and they’ve not so much as conceded a goal in their last four outings.

They’ve started well in recent seasons before letting things slip but there is a greater confidence that they can maintain their form and challenge for at least a top seven finish this time around.

One To Watch
Dean Keates moved to strengthen his attacking options in the middle of last month when he drafted in Fleetwood Town forward Alex Reid on loan – and it’s looking a shrewd move.

The 22-year-old scored on his debut and has added two more since, only finishing on the losing side once in six outings for Wrexham so far.

His partnership with Ntumba Massanka is showing signs of promise so if Pools can keep the pair of them off the scoresheet on Tuesday then they’ll have gone a long way to getting a result in North Wales.

Head To Head
Tuesday evening’s game will be 104th competitive meeting between Pools and Wrexham but the first to take place since back in 2007.

It’s the first time the clubs have shared a division since 2006/07; Jon Daly scored all the goals in a 3-0 win at The Vic in September 2006 before Pools claimed a point from a 1-1 draw at the Racecourse four months later.

It’s usually a fixture which provides high levels of entertainment, indeed there hasn’t been a goalless draw between the sides since 1961 and the teams shared an incredible 16 goals over two games in 2004/05. 5-1 at Wrexham and 4-6 at Pools – remember Juan Ugarte?

Referee
Joseph Johnson will take charge of his first-ever Pools game on Tuesday night when he’s the man in the middle for our encounter with Wrexham.

The official is in to his third season on the National League’s list of referees though he’s taken charge of only one game so far this term – AFC Fylde’s home win over Barrow on Bank Holiday Monday.
