Pools Youth Team will be looking to build on their improved form on Saturday when they head to Doncaster Rovers in their latest Youth Alliance League outing (11am kick-off).
Ian McGuckin’s youngsters have been boosted by impressive performances in both the League Cup and the prestigious FA Youth Cup in recent weeks and now the attention turns back to the league.
Their weekend hosts are currently bottom of the North East Division and are yet to record a league win this season but McGuckin has insisted there will be no room for complacency.
“We have had a good week and had two convincing victories so now we need to build on that,” he told us.
“We’re fully aware that we’re a bit lower in the table than we’d like at the minute but we’ve got games in hand on most of the teams so now we need to start climbing.
“The lads are in good spirits and good form so now we have to underline that by getting some points on the board and moving up the division.”
McGuckin is likely to be without Jon Weirs who is struggling with a calf injury and he could dip in to the Under-16 squad for a replacement, while Niall Short remains sidelined long-term with a knee problem.
Saturday’s game takes place at Rovers’ Cantley Park Training Ground and we’ll have a full report and reaction here on the Official Website on Monday.
