Pools fans got the chance to go back two decades when 1990/91 management duo Alan Murray and Eddie Kyle spoke at a special talk-in at Victoria Park recently.
The pair oversaw a glorious promotion at The Vic and were able to reminisce with fans and answer questions about the season which saw Pools clinch third spot with victory over Northampton Town on the final day.
Hosted by Northern Echo Sports Editor Nicky Loughlin, the evening attracted a healthy attendance to the Centenary Lounge in the latest event organised by the Friends of HUFC 1908 group.
Murray and Kyle both shared some stories from behind-the-scenes at the time, lifting the lid on their promotion secrets and the turbulent times surrounding their eventual sackings.
There was even an impromptu appearance from current boss Craig Harrison who spent the evening in the company of fans with his wife and daughter, and also took time to answer some questions from the floor.
“It was great to meet supporters and also listen to some of the tales from the 1990s that Alan and Eddie shared,” admitted Harrison.
“This Club has a rich history and we should keep on celebrating the successes; Alan and Eddie did a fine job to win promotion so it was a pleasure to be there to learn more about it.
“I wanted to be there because my family and I have really bought in to this Club – it was a bit of a mad dash from training to go home and pick up Dannielle and the little one up but it was worth it for a great night.”
