Victoria Park

In Opposition
Aldershot Town have bounced back in solid fashion after finishing 5th in the National League last term only to fall at the play-off semi-final hurdle to Tranmere Rovers.

Gary Waddock’s side are certainly easy on the eye this term too; they’ve scored 31 goals which is more than any other team in the division but they’re also up there with the leakiest defence as well.

The Shots have tasted defeat in three of their last four away games but they have found the net at least once in all but one of their last eleven games so they certainly need to be taken seriously.

They currently sit in the final play-off berth in the table but, such is the tight nature of the division, Pools can leapfrog their visitors with a win at The Vic this weekend.

One To Watch
Experienced front man Scott Rendell is one player Pools will need to keep a close eye on when Aldershot Town visit The Vic this weekend.

He hit the net an impressive 49 times in 83 appearances for Woking before joining The Shots last June and he brings EFL experience with the likes of Wycombe Wanderers and Oxford United.

Rendell has scored three goals for Town this term but remains a real threat so Craig Harrison will know he will need monitoring closely on Saturday.

Head To Head
Saturday’s game will be the 57th competitive meeting between the two sides but the first since December 2004 when Pools ran out 5-1 winners in the FA Cup at Victoria Park.

Pools have a good record against The Shots having won on the last four occasions the teams have met and you have to look back to 1989 for Town’s last victory in the fixture – though that was a 6-1 thrashing at the Recreation Ground.

Entertainment is usually guaranteed with the sides producing 22 goals in their last five encounters – there’s also never been a goalless draw between them.

Referee
Matthew Donohue will be on the whistle for this weekend’s game as he takes charge of his second Pools match for the visit of Aldershot Town.

He was last in the middle for a Pools fixture when Craig Harrison’s men won 2-1 in dramatic fashion at Solihull Moors at the start of October.

Still in his first season on the National League list of referees, Donohue has overseen six fixtures this term with his most recent appointment coming at Tranmere Rovers for their 4-2 win over FC Halifax Town last month.
