Dave Jones praised his side’s character after they came from behind to defeat Exeter City and claim back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
Things looked like going wrong for Pools when Ollie Watkins was allowed to come inside to drill the visitors in front
However, Pools rallied after the break and Lewis Alessandra found the net twice again and Padraig Amond was once again on target as Jones’ men moved six points clear of the bottom two.
“It’s a nice feeling now but it was hard going in the first half,” Jones told Pools PlayerHD.
“I thought both teams looked pretty tired but I just felt if we could inject a bit more pace in to it and get at them more we would cause problems and that what happened in the second half.
“It doesn’t matter what level you’re at you have to earn the right to play and the pleasing thing today is that when we went a goal behind the boys dug in and then we got our rewards.
“We changed it and tweaked it at half time and I thought they were superb in the second half; I don’t like picking people out by Rhys (Oates) and Lewis (Alessandra) up top were brilliant today.
“When we got level it gave us a spark; they have had two long trips and we mentioned it at half time that if we chased and hounded them then something was always going to give.
“I am pleased for them because they’ve worked hard since we came in and we’ve changed a lot of things but now they’re coming to fruition which also helps.
“We’re only on the first rung on the ladder but we keep moving, keep getting the points to drag ourselves away from danger and then we’ll look at it for next year.”
