Billy Paynter has been ruled out for the rest of the season after being forced to undergo surgery to repair damage to his Achilles.
The Club Captain has recently undergone a series of injections in a bid to avoid the need for an operation but unfortunately this hasn’t worked as effectively as had been hoped.
“We wanted to give Billy the best chance of getting back this season which is why we went down the route of injections,” explained Head Physio Ian Gallagher.
“Billy wanted to do everything to get back but it’s now got to the stage where the right thing to do is have the operation and make sure he’s fit and ready for go for the start of pre-season.”
Paynter, who was the Club’s top scorer during his debut season in 2015/16, hasn’t played since January and underwent surgery on Wednesday afternoon.
