Pools Reserves will go head to head with Grimsby Town in a table-topping Central League encounter at The Northern Gas and Power Stadium on Wednesday (1pm kick-off).
The Mariners currently sit at the summit of the North East Division table on goal difference, but Pools are level on points so the game will go a long way to deciding the destination of the title.
Ian McGuckin will take charge of a mainly young Pools line-up, which includes former Grimsby star Carl Magnay who is looking to build his fitness after returning from six months out with a cruciate ligament rupture.
And McGuckin is hoping that the extra spice of playing at The Vic in a game crucial to league standing can help his side produce a strong performance against Town, who won 5-0 when the sides met in November.
“It’s a game that’s definitely got something about it,” McGuckin told us.
“The last time we played Grimsby we were beaten quite convincingly, albeit that they had a strong and experienced team out and a new manager to impress.
“I think when you play at the First Team stadium it gives the game an added spice and the way things are set up in the league also means there will be an edge.
“It’s great that Carl Magnay is involved from the start in the game; his rehab has gone really well to date so this is the next step for him now to get minutes under his belt.”
Season Ticket holders can get in to the game for free, while regular admission prices are £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
We'll have updates on Twitter throughout the game as well as a full report and reaction here on the Official Website following the final whistle.
