Liam Donnelly was the hero for Northern Ireland Under-21s on Thursday afternoon as his injury-time penalty clinched a 2-1 European Championships qualifier win in Estonia.
The Pools defender kept his cool to slot home from twelve yards in the fourth minute of added-on time to hand Ian Baraclough’s men three points from the opening game of their qualifying campaign.
Sheffield United youngster David Parkhouse had earlier levelled the scoring for Northern Ireland after Rauno Sappinen had put hosts Estonia in front in Talinn.
Donnelly captains the Under-21 side and his late winner ensured that Baraclough got off to the perfect start in his first game in charge.
The Green and White Army's Under-21 side will also come up against Albania, Iceland, Slovakia and Spain as they bid to reach the 2019 Euro Championship Finals, which which will be held in Italy and San Marino.
