Craig Harrison was pleased with his side’s performance as they hit back from a goal down to earn a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough Under-23s at Victoria Park on Friday night.
Pools fell behind early in the second half but turned the game around thanks to goals from Louis Laing and Jack Munns and the team gained praise for their character from the boss.
“The first half was a fairly cagey affair so at half time we asked them to be a bit more decisive in the final third,” Harrison told Pools PlayerHD.
“In the second half I felt we did better; we played in their half more and the second goal is a great goal after some combination play and I thought we thoroughly deserved to win the game.
“Their goal sparked us to life a bit and we upped the tempo so it was pleasing to see the lads’ reaction to going behind and I thought the fitness was promising too because we took the game to them in the last half hour.
“I thought everyone did really well; the centre-half pairing looked really good, Conor Newton brilliant just in front of them and the central midfield of Woods and Hawkins showed excellent energy.”
