Pools continue their pre-season preparations on Saturday when they make the trip to face Harrogate Town in the latest friendly (3pm kick-off).
Craig Harrison has seen his team defeat Billingham Town 6-0 and Dunston UTS 7-0 in their two outings so far but will expect a sterner test against the National League North outfit this weekend.
Town finished 11th in the league last term and enjoyed a 1-0 win during their first pre-season friendly at Northern Counties East League side Parkgate.
The Pools boss is set to take a strong squad for the game at The CNG Stadium, with Conor Newton in line for a debut after becoming the eighth new signing of the summer on Thursday.
Harrison is keen to ensure that the majority of his squad get more minutes under their belts with many of those who played only half an hour at Dunston in midweek set to be handed an hour on Saturday.
Nicky Featherstone is in the reckoning for his first taste of pre-season action after the midfielder completed his rehabilitation following a double hernia operation.
However, Jake Cassidy, Luke George and Jack Munns have minor knocks so will be rested and Devante Rodney is still not ready to play as he battles a hip injury.
“This will be a more competitive game for us, no doubt, and we’re looking forward to it,” Harrison told us.
“I know a little bit about Harrogate, they’ve gone full-time this season and I would fancy them to finish in the top quarter of the National League North so it will be a good test.
“They’ve got an artificial pitch but that’s not really of any concern, in fact it is good preparation for us because we’ll be playing on similar surfaces in the National League in the new season.
“Jake has a tight hamstring, Luke has a tight calf and Jack took a kick in the game at Dunston – if this was a league game they’d all be playing but there’s no point risking them at this stage.”
