Craig Harrison was satisfied with the work his players got through as Pools ran out 6-0 winners in their first pre-season friendly at Billingham Town on Thursday night.
The Pools boss watched on as goals from Rhys Oates (2), Josh Hawkes (2) and Padraig Amond (2) saw his side through to an emphatic victory at Bedford Terrace.
Harrison knows that there is plenty of work still ahead for the squad but was pleased with the fixture as a starting point and is ready to step things up in the coming weeks.
“The main thing was we got injuries and we got 45 minutes in to everyone, which was the aim,” he told Pools PlayerHD.
“To be fair to the lads, they’ve worked hard for nine days and hardly done any ball work so in both halves I think you could see the first 15 minutes was a little rusty.
“That’s to be expected because we’ve been concentrating on getting the lads in the condition we want so they can do what we need physically in games.
“The game was exactly the kind of thing I wanted; I wasn’t sure how demanding it would be but I was really pleased with how it worked, I thought it went well.
“There will be more physical demands put on them in the next two weeks or so and then, as the season comes closer, we can nail down a bit more tactically.
“The fans who came to the game were fantastic, they’ve been everything I expected and more and I think the players responded to that.”
