Liam Travers fired a hat-trick as Pools Youth Team kept their good run going with a well-deserved win over Bradford City at Blackhall on Saturday morning.
John Hewitson’s youngsters have now tasted victory on four of their last five outings and they swept their weekend visitors aside with a powerful performance to run out 4-1 winners against The Bantams.
Pools dominated the game from start to finish and had a couple of early chances to go in front before finally making the breakthrough on 20 minutes when Connor Simpson drove inside from the left before firing a low shot past the keeper.
It was a lead which Pools built on early in the second half when Simpson intercepted possession and played in Josh Hawkes down the right and his cross was met on the volley by Travers for 2-0.
City pulled a goal back just before the hour-mark but it was only brief respite for the visiting side and Travers scored again on 75 minutes to make it 3-1 and put Pools firmly back on the front foot.
Young front man Travers completed his hat-trick with a wonderful curling finish from the edge of the box to add extra gloss to an excellent display from Hewitson’s side.
“The most pleasing thing has been the development in the performances from the lads in recent weeks,” Hewitson explained afterwards.
“You can see that there is a real confidence and collective belief within the squad now and it’s something we’ll be hoping to keep going for the rest of the season.
“It was great for Liam to get the hat-trick but there were a number of outstanding displays right across the team so it was a thoroughly-deserved win.”
