Pools Reserves Slip To Friendly Defeat

11 January 2017

Devante Rodney scored on his first outing in a Pools shirt on Tuesday night but it wasn’t enough to prevent a young Reserve side from slipping to friendly defeat at Seaham Red Star.

The 18-year-old forward, signed on a permanent deal from Sheffield Wednesday last week, netted midway through the first half to bring Pools level after the hosts had gone in front from the penalty spot.

However, the Northern League Division One outfit scored two goals in quick succession just after the break to take control of the game and they made it 4-1 on 65 minutes.

Harly Wise came close to pulling one back when he hit the post direct from a free-kick, while trialist James Caton cut inside to strike a post with a shot as Pools pressed for a route back in to the game.

Young star Josh Hawkes came off the bench to score with a low drive for Pools but it was too little too late and the hosts saw the game out for victory.

As well as Caton, the young Pools line-up also included fellow trialists Rudolph de Kimpe and Alex Kempster.
