Dave Jones has challenged the players to help him round-off an excellent first week in charge by putting in another strong display at Newport County on Saturday.
The new boss was hugely encouraged after watching from the stands as Pools defeated Stevenage 2-0 at The Northern Gas and Power Stadium last weekend.
Jones and his backroom staff have since got to work on the training ground to try and improve certain aspects of the team’s play and they want to see evidence of that at Rodney Parace on Saturday.
“It’s been enjoyable; the lads want to do well and hopefully that continues,” he told Pools PlayerHD.
“We’ve tried to implement small bits – not a vast amount – and we’ve reinforced that during this week; as much as we would like to put everything in to them in one go we have to do it bit by bit.
“It was a very good performance last week and the boys did everything we asked of them – there are times when it will break down but what we’re asking them to do is be a bit more patient on the ball.
“It might be about educating the fans to a certain style as well but that’s the whole process and hopefully we can do it pretty quickly.”
Newport are without a win since November and have lost eight of their last ten games in league competition but Jones has warned his players against any complacency.
With the best part of 1000 professional games under his belt as a Manager, he is well aware that no fixtures are easy at any level of football.
“Every team we play will be a battle,” he insisted.
“It amazes me when people say a team will be battling for points because everyone is battling for points but we will go there with a belief.
“I feel that there is a buzz around the place at the moment so we want to continue that but we have to respectful to Newport and make sure we do things right – if we do, we’ll have more chance of winning.”
