Jones Appointment Is Exciting - Coxall

18 January 2017

Chairman Gary Coxall has welcomed Dave Jones as the new First Team Manager at Pools and said the decision to appoint him was an easy one.

Coxall had promised that swift action would be taken to announce a successor to Craig Hignett who left the Club on Sunday and work has been ongoing since then to earmark the right man.

Over 100 high-quality applications arrived at The Northern Gas and Power Stadium but Coxall has insisted that Jones quickly became a stand out candidate given his experience and track record.

“I think it’s a brilliant appointment and one that really shows the direction this Club is going to start moving in,” he told us.

“The guy’s CV speaks for itself and this is such a move away from what clubs in and around us are doing – these are really exciting times for Hartlepool United.

“Dave has got every area covered. He already has his plans and has done a hell of a lot of research about the Club, plus he’s got a vast amount of football knowledge and experience.

“One thing that stands out is how meticulous he is in his approach to management and if you can have that alone in League Two then I think it’s a platform for success.

“He has made it clear from the outset that he has a real desire to be a Manager again; he didn’t need to get back in to management but he wants to get his boots muddy again and to go through the ups and downs – and do something different with this Club.

“I genuinely think that one thing we have got to say is that some of the applicants we have had for this position has been unbelievable.

“I won’t hear of anyone using the excuse of the Club’s size location against because anyone who says that should have a look at the list of managers who wanted to come here.

“This is the right decision. You just look at the fact he had managed in the Premier League, the Championship and in the FA Cup Final – to get someone like that make the decision to appoint him a no-brainer.”
