We take a closer look at the Club’s new Assistant Manager with a full and in-depth profile of Kevin Cooper.
A former Derby County trainee, Kevin Cooper made his name following a successful loan move to Stockport County in January 1997, signed by none other than Dave Jones.
Quick to identify his talent, Jones made Cooper’s move to Edgeley Park a permanent one that summer when he paid £250,000 for the midfielder who went on to play almost 200 times for The Hatters before securing an £800,000 switch to Wimbledon.
His ten goals from midfield for The Dons attracted a bid of £1million from Wolverhampton Wanderers where Cooper was re-united with Jones and he played a key role as they were promoted to the Premier League in 2002/03.
A brief loan stint at Sunderland and then at Norwich City (where he picked up a Championship winners’ medal) was followed by a permanent move to Cardiff City where he again linked-up with Jones.
He spent three years with The Bluebirds during which he also enjoyed loan spells at Yeovil Town, Walsall and Tranmere Rovers, before making a switch to Chesterfield in 2008 where he scored on his debut.
A half-season stay at Newport County was followed by a move to the Welsh Premier League with Neath before he began to focus on coaching and earned his breakthrough with an appointment as Under-21 Coach at Cardiff City in 2012.
Cooper gained continental experience when he agreed to take the role as Manager at Swiss Second Division outfit Servette Geneva in 2014 and guided them to a second place finish before moving to fellow Swiss Challenge League side FC Wil in November 2015.
