Dave Jones feels that some extra self-belief can help Pools get back to winning ways after seeing his side slip to a 2-1 defeat at Colchester United on Saturday.
The Pools boss admitted feeling anger at the result and insisted his side were worthy of at least something for the game after matching the play-off chasing U’s for much of the afternoon.
“I thought for long spells of the game we were the better team,” Jones told Pools PlayerHD.
“We limited their chances and you heard the crowd start to get at them but then we had lapses in concentration at vital times and that can’t happen.
“I just feel that when you’re in control of the game you have to get a goal and give ones like we have today, but that’s been the trait here and we have to try and change that mentality.
“Some of the lads are saying it wasn’t a penalty but I don’t know, if it was at the other end we’d probably be complaining if it’s not given – we shouldn’t have been in that position in the first place really.
“I am a bit angry with them at the moment because we’re so close to it but just have to believe in it – they definitely need to believe in themselves more and not just play safe.”
