We helped some local graduates from the National Citizen Service (NCS) celebrate their achievements at Saturday’s game against Plymouth Argyle.
The fixture was nominated as our specific NCS Match Day and graduates were invited along as guests and helped welcome the teams on to the pitch before kick-off.
As well as that, they were also given the opportunity to have their photos taken with some of the players, who all wore special NCS t-shirts during the warm-up.
NCS is a nationwide experience for Year 11 and Year 12 students, giving them the chance to shake things up and develop new skills for whatever post-GCSE life has to throw at them.
Over 1.9 million hours of social action have taken place across the UK as part of the NCS initiative – the equivalent of building 74 Olympic Stadiums and a Great Wall of China!
Pools’ NCS Ambassador is Padraig Amond and he took time out before kick-off to have photos taken with some of the hard-working graduates at the weekend.
“I’m really proud to be chosen at NCS Ambassador at Hartlepool United,” the front man explained.
“I think NCS is brilliant. It gives young people the chance to experience a variety of activities and challenges, whilst building new friendships and benefitting the local community.
“Ultimately, NCS lays a solid foundation for these guys to go on with confidence and achieve whatever they want to in the future.”
The NCS programme in Hartlepool has been delivered by the Club’s Community Sports Foundation, with the support of teens who have already graduated with over 300,000 young people having already taken part nationally.
“I would encourage any young person to take part in NCS,” said Vicki Hutchinson, who co-ordinates the NCS Programme at Pools.
“It is a unique opportunity where you can develop life and employability skills as well as make new friends and have lots of fun!”
