Dave Jones has admitted he is looking forward to this weekend’s return to home soil and is hoping Pools can bounce back to form with victory over high-flying Plymouth Argyle.
The Pools boss was frustrated by back-to-back defeats on the road but has insisted that his side showed plenty of reasons for optimism ahead of Saturday’s return to their own patch.
Jones named a starting eleven with an average age of just 23 at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday evening but he is confident his young players can turn the corner if they keep on working hard.
“It will be nice to be back at home,” Jones told Pools PlayerHD.
“We know what we’ve got to do; the lads are up for it and want to do well and they know they let themselves down, certainly at Mansfield.
“We saw enough on Tuesday night – after the nightmare of the first fifteen minutes – to know there are positives and if they can continue where they left off then that’s what we’re looking for.
“I’ve watched a lot of games within this division and I’ve seen nothing that says we’re that far behind, we just have to be consistent.
“Unfortunately, with younger players consistency is something everyone looks for – but if we can get that now then we’ll be ok.”
Jones has called on Pools fans to come out in force for Saturday’s game against an Argyle side who currently lie second in the table, three points behind leaders Doncaster Rovers.
The former Southampton and Cardiff City chief knows the impact a vocal support can have on Pools between now and the end of the season and he hopes that his side can give the fans something to cheer this weekend.
“The more fans that come and the more noise they make, the better it will be for the team.
I’ve got nothing but admiration for our supporters, both home and away, and if they can continue that backing for the boys then hopefully we can do the business for them.”
