All Square Between Pools And Glovers

Pools and Yeovil Town got a goal each and a point each in Dave Jones' first home game as Manager.

Pools started with four strikers in the eleven and the attacking intent showed in the opening spell of the game, with both new signings getting stuck in on their debut.

Louis Rooney was a problem for the visitors, as the on-loan striker showed great movement and a determination to chase every ball.

The Plymouth Argyle man sent a shot in at goal within the first few minutes which came in from the right side of the box but was collected by Artur Krysiak in the visiting goal.

The busy striker then turned provider as he flicked the ball on straight into the path of Padraig Amond who moved on to try a chipped effort on goal that beat Krysiak but landed just on the roof of the net.

Pools dominated the opening quarter hour of play and looked a real threat going forward, while dealing with a couple of corners from the visitors at the other end.

Andrew Nelson, on loan from Sunderland, showed a real battling approach down the right in the first half, winning a freekick after some determined running.

Sean Kavanagh stepped up to take the kick but his pacey effort fizzed just wide at the far post.

Adam Bartlett set up a good move for Pools with a quick throw out to Rooney, who burst forward before playing in Lewis Alessandra. He took the ball to the by-line where he looped a ball across the face of goal, where it just went unchallenged before being cleared at the far post.

After such a bright start to the half, there was a lull in the action and the half finished much quieter but there was plenty of attacking promise from Jones’ side.

Artur Krysiak made a great save at the start of the second half to deny Rooney a goal on his debut; after great work by a dogged Nelson, the striker put a square ball in to Rooney who poked the ball goalwards from close range only to be denied by Krysiak who clawed the effort over the bar.

Rooney was in to challenge again shortly after, this time set away by a great ball from Nelson. After skipping away from his marker, Rooney went past Krysiak to slot the ball goalwards only to be denied by Darren Ward with a very well-timed block.

A goal looked more likely in this second half and it finally arrived in the 65th minute as Padraig Amond got his eleventh of the season; it was a lovely floated ball in from Nelson to pick out the striker and it was an even better header from Amond from 16 yards out that beat Krysiak and hit the back of the net.

The lead didn’t last long though and within five minutes, Yeovil Town were level. As Nelson battled with Francois Zoko inside the box, the young striker fouled his man, conceding a penalty in the process.

Former Pools loanee Matthew Dolan stepped up to take the penalty and sent Bartlett the wrong way to make it 1-1 on 69 minutes.

The Pools fans, seeing how disappointed Nelson was to concede the spotkick, were quick to encourage a player who had been very bright on his debut for the Club.

Dave Jones reacted to the equaliser by introducing Nathan Thomas for Pools to see if the winger could help Pools find a winner.

Bartlett pulled off a great save on 81 minutes to deny Matthew Dolan with a freekick which curled its way towards goal; the Pools keeper went full-stretch to push it wide.

It was the visitors who enjoyed the best spell of pressure following their equaliser as Pools struggled to get a real hold of the ball.

But there were no more goals in this game and the afternoon finished at 1-1, with Dave Jones picked up his first point as Pools boss.
