Dave Jones felt his side should have managed the game better after being forced to accept a point from their home meeting with Yeovil Town on Saturday.
The Pools boss was happy with the endeavour his players showed and thought they deserved the lead handed to them when Padraig Amond brilliantly headed home debutant Andrew Nelson’s pinpoint cross on 64 minutes.
However, loan star Nelson upeneded Francois Zoko in the box five minutes later and Yeovil’s Hartlepool-born midfielder Matty Dolan stroker home a leveller from the penalty spot.
“I thought we played well for 70 or 75 minutes,” Jones told Pools PlayerHD.
“We got a bit tired which shows perhaps we’re not fit enough for how we want to play but overall the response from the boys was brilliant and they kept trying to do the right things.
“What we tried to do with them in the last ten days showed in the goal – it was a well worked goal but we should have held on for longer and gone on to win the game.
“The penalty was a bit unfortunate and you can’t really blame the young boy – he was a bit over-excited but the people around him should have helped him as well.
“We started on the front foot and were relentless to begin with but we have to be better at management of the game.”
