Lifelong Pools fan Bill Borthwick was given a special birthday surprise on Tuesday night when he was invited in to the dressing room to meet the players ahead of the game against Luton Town.
Bill is celebrating his 80th birthday on Thursday and, as part of his celebrations, son-in-law Simon arranged hospitality in The Hatters’ Eric Morecambe Lounge for Tuesday’s game.
However, we stepped in to make sure that he got an extra special surprise by taking him down in to the dressing room where he chatted with management and players as they prepared for kick-off.
A regular at Victoria Park for over 70 years before a recent move to Northampton to be closer to his daughter Liz and her husband Simon, Bill told Dave Jones about his days watching Pools under the management of the likes of Fred Westgarth and Brian Clough.
He also got the chance to meet Assistant Manager Kevin Cooper and all of the players, posing for photographs with favourites Nathan Thomas and Brad Walker, before returning to the Lounge to enjoy the rest of his evening.
Sadly, Pools couldn’t get the right result for Bill but everyone at the Club would like to wish him a very happy birthday for Thursday.
