Matthew Bates has called for a positive performance from his Reserve Team as they host Billingham Synthonia in the Durham Challenge County Cup at Victoria Park on Wednesday (7.30pm kick-off).

There is a mainly young feel to the Pools line-up for the Second Round tie at The Vic, though Blair Adams, Lewis Hawkins, Devante Rodney and Tomi Adeloye are all set to start.

Bates saw his side edge through via a penalty shootout in the last round against Hebburn Town but is hoping for a more fluent and dominant display this time around.

“Hopefully we can put in a positive performance and get some goals,” Bates told us.

“It’s important for the younger lads to get some Reserve Team football under their belts because it’s all good experience for them.

“Tonight they’ll get the chance to pit their wits against men which is something a bit different to Youth Team fixtures or some Reserves games so it will be good to see how they adapt to that.

“We’ve not got a lot of league games at Reserve level this season so this is a competition we’re taking seriously and we want to progress.”

Entry in to the game is just £5 for adults and £3 for concessions, with access through Turnstiles 1 and 2 on Clarence Road in to the Cyril Knowles Stand from 6.30pm.

We’ll have a full report and reaction here on the Official Website following the final whistle.
