Craig Harrison has insisted a mixture of hard work and good fun in training this week will help bring the best out of his players in Saturday’s game against Macclesfield Town.
The Pools squad were featured on Sky Sports News on Thursday after a post on the Club’s social media showed players in a good-natured snowball fight with Physio Phil Bulmer at the training ground.
Boss Harrison was right in amongst it too and he knows that creating a light-hearted backdrop for the hard work needed to achieve success in football is going to be key during a long National League season.
“You need to be comfortable in the environment you’re working in because that gets the best of everyone,” Harrison told Pools PlayerHD.
“We had a bit of fun on Thursday with the snow and it created a good atmosphere, a bit of camaraderie and gave everyone the chance to laugh at each other,” Harrison told Pools PlayerHD.
“Yes, there are times to be serious and when it’s needed the lads are very focused.
“They had an extremely tough session on Thursday morning; they worked for two hours, got a lot of work done and the physical stats show that they put the effort in and got what we wanted out of it.
“Once that serious work is done you have to create a comfortable atmosphere and there has to be an element of fun in that.”
Fourth-placed Macclesfield Town provide the latest test for Pools as they look to close the gap on the play-off places in the league table.
The set-back of defeat at Ebbsfleet United has not been brushed under the carpet by Harrison but he is now hoping his players can shake it off by returning to the form which saw them thrash FC Halifax Town 4-0 last time out at The Vic.
“Every game is different and we’re looking forward to it,” he explained.
“We’re at home so we have to have the same mentality as we did against Halifax because we’re in a good place and we need to kick-on and build from that.
“The fans were fantastic that night, as they always are; they got behind the players, it set the tone and things snowballed from there, if you pardon the pun!”
