After seeing his side pick up their first National League win of the season, Craig Harrison was clearly proud of his players.
And the Pools boss admitted that, while the win wasn’t pretty, he would be happy to pick up those kinds of wins every week.
“The win was long overdue,” Harrison told Pools PlayerHD after the game.
“Everyone has had a tough week, we had the disappointing result on Saturday and we just wanted to roll up our sleeves and get out there today.
“I said to the lads to forget about tactics, forget about football, just go out there and give everything you have got and you’ll be surprised how far that gets you.
“And you look at it today and every single player was outstanding. They’re a physically big team and in the last twenty minutes they’ve gone direct and we’ve stood up. I thought Keith was outstanding, Mags was outstanding, Loachy has made two great saves.
“The players deserve that because as much as we haven’t played well, not one of them has chucked the towel in. They’ve all worked hard and all stood up and we knew it wasn’t good enough. Today they deserve that win and I am really pleased for them.
“It doesn’t get much uglier than that to be honest but I’d take that every single week; a clean sheet and win as ugly as that.
“One thing though, we have to make sure this is a springboard for us and we kick on from here.”
And the Manager reserved his final words for the travelling army of almost 800 Pools fans who made the trip to follow the team,
“The fans were unbelievable again. After a poor result on Saturday, to come out in their droves like they did today is certainly appreciated by myself, the staff and the players and I would like to say a huge thank you to them all.”
