We turn our attentions to Bank Holiday Monday with a full and in-depth preview of our National League trip to Nethermoor Park.

Guiseley AFC v Hartlepool United
Vanarama National League
Monday 28th August 2017, 3pm
Nethermoor Park

In Opposition
Having escaped relegation on the final day of the last two seasons, Guiseley fans will be hoping that there will be no such tension at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

It took The Lions until October to register their first win last term so they will be encouraged by the fact they already have a victory under their belts this season – a 3-2 triumph over Torquay United last weekend.

They were beaten 2-0 in front of the BT Sport cameras at FC Halifax Town on Saturday, a result which leaves them 21st – two places and three points better off than Pools.

Former Yeovil Town and Doncaster Rovers defender Adam Lockwood is the man in charge at Nethermoor Park and he kept the majority of his squad together during the summer following last term’s survival exploits.

One To Watch
Reece Thompson was brought in from North Ferriby during the summer and given the responsibility of replacing the goals lost by last term’s top scorer Jake Cassidy’s move to Victoria Park.

Still only 23, Thompson hit double figures during 2016/17 and scored against Guiseley in North Ferriby’s 2-1 win at Nethermoor Park in February.

That goal, as well as a run of four in consecutive games towards the end of the campaign, was enough to catch the eye of Lions boss Adam Lockwood who made his move to secure the front man’s services at the end of June.

Head To Head
This will be the first-ever competitive meeting between the two clubs.

Alan Young will oversee his first-ever Pools game on Bank Holiday Monday when he takes charge of our trip to Guiseley.

Now in his third season on the National League’s list of referee, Young’s last appointment came on Saturday when he was on the whistle for Dagenham & Redbridge’s 5-1 triumph over Bromley.

The last time he refereed Guiseley was towards the end of last season when he presided over Tranmere Rovers’ 2-1 win at Nethermoor Park in April.
