Dave Jones has told his players that Saturday’s game will be as much about attitude as ability as Pools host Barnet looking for three valuable points in the battle for survival.
Jones’ men will be hoping to recover quickly following the disappointing 2-1 defeat at Leyton Orient on Easter Monday and know that victory could be crucial as they seek to stay out of the bottom two.
The Pools boss knows that it’s a high-pressure situation for all involved but is demanding his players thrive on that as they welcome a Bees side who have lost their lost four games.
“In football you have to embrace the pressure,” Jones told Pools PlayerHD.
“You can’t play any sport that is competitive without pressure and it’s about how you deal with that; the adrenaline kicks in and then the mind has to control that.
“If you enjoy and embrace the pressure then that means that you’re at the top of your game and the more you embrace it the more success you’ll have.
“Everybody know what we have got to do and it’s no good shying away from it. There are no ifs and buts, this is what we have to do and sometimes that’s the best way.
“This isn’t just about ability – it’s about full-pelt, 100% attitude and effort. Leave nothing in the dressing room and play with no fear.
“When you’re trying to win things you say exactly the same things; don’t come off the pitch thinking about what you didn’t do or could have gone, just be clear.
“You have a job to do and that’s what you go and do.”
