The Club Captain pens a Blog for us ahead of Saturday's crunch clash with Cheltenham Town at Whaddon Road.
Firstly, I would like to start by saying a massive thank you to all the fans who have bought tickets and are making the long trip to Cheltenham this weekend to support the team and the Club.
Obviously, Cheltenham have reduced ticket prices for home fans to try and create an atmosphere at their stadium but we know that our supporters will travel in their numbers and be loud and proud behind the team on Saturday.
I knew there was something extra special about Poolies a few seasons ago – even before I signed for the Club. It was the final day of the 2014/15 campaign when Pools were at Carlisle and an amazing away following had made an incredible noise all day as the teams drew 3-3.
After the game I was on the pitch with the Carlisle lads and among us was Antony Sweeney, who was then given an absolutely brilliant reception from Pools fans. I remember thinking how classy that was to remember what he had done for the Club over the years and it certainly helped cement my decision to sign for Pools when the opportunity arose that summer.
Before the warm-up on Saturday I will be over to the away end to say hello to the Pools supporters who have got there early. And I will come back to see you all before kick-off as well to get you going and because I want you to know how much I appreciate you and how vital a role you can play this weekend and next.
We might not have it all our own way on the pitch on Saturday, that’s just how football works. But at those moments when we might be under pressure or we need that backing, your cheers and encouragement can help drag the extra percent out of all the lads that we will need over the next two games.
At this present time, due to my injury, I am unable to be out on the pitch doing my bit as a player but I have massively enjoyed being back around the squad and in amongst it again this week. One thing I will say is that the lads have had a great week in training and they will be ready come the first whistle on Saturday, there’s no doubts over that.
I’m writing this on the team coach on the way down to our team hotel in Cheltenham and I can tell you that there is a mood of determination and focus among everyone. We’re on business here and we are totally set on going to Cheltenham on Saturday and getting the result we need, we will be doing everything we possibly can to achieve that.
We’re going there to outfight them on the pitch, safe in the knowledge that you will out-sing them on the terraces and if we can stay together for the full 90 minutes then I am confident we can do what is needed to keep this brilliant Club and its supporters in the EFL.
Many thanks for your support throughout the entire campaign. I appreciate it and so do all the players and staff so let’s all give it our all and scrap our way out of this.
Up The Poolies!
