Team News: Stevenage v Pools

1 September 2016

We take a look at the latest info from both camps ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two game against Stevenage at The Lamex Stadium (3pm kick-off).

Craig Hignett will be without Toto Nsiala for Saturday’s game at Stevenage as the defender serves his one-game ban following a red card against Newport County last weekend.

While Nsiala was also sent-off in Wednesday’s game at Notts County, that three-game suspension will be served only in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Adam Bartlett will continue in goal for Pools on Saturday in the absence of Trevor Carson who is away on international duty with Northern Ireland, while Liam Donnelly is also missing as he is in Northern Ireland’s Under-21 squad.

Matthew Bates (ankle) , Rob Jones (back) and Carl Magnay (rib) have both made good progress in training this week and Hignett is confident the trio will be ready to return to action on Saturday.

The Pools boss could also choose to hand debuts to new loan signings Bradley Fewster and Tom Heardman who were both ineligible for Wednesday’s game at Meadow Lane.

Stevenage boss Darren Sarll will be able to call on a handful new signings this weekend if required after the Hertfordshire outfit were busy in the final days of the transfer window.

Aston Villa’s Harry McKirby, Nottingham Forest’s Tyler Walker and Peterborough United’s Kgosi Ntlhe all arrived on loan during deadline day, joining Villa’s Henry Cowans who signed last week.

The hosts will be without Jobi McCanuff who has been called-up for international duty by Jamaica, while Ben Kennedy and Dale Gorman are away with Northern Ireland Under-21s.

Steven Schumacher remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury sustained last season.
