Pools Reserves are back in action this afternoon when they host Bradford City in the first of their Central League Cup fixtures at Billingham Town (2pm kick-off).
Sam Collins will lead the side as they look to build on last week’s season-opening league win over York City with a positive start to their cup campaign.
As well as The Bantams, Pools will come up against Newcastle United, Sheffield United and Rotherham United in the group stages of the competition.
City will arrive in the north-east this afternoon hoping to hit back after being thumped 5-0 in their first outing of the season at Burton Albion last Wednesday.
Defender Isaac Assenso is set for another start for Pools Reserves as he continues his trial, while Kieran Green, Connor Smith and Brad Walker are among others named in the stating line-up.
“The lads are doing really well so far,” Collins told us.
“I think going back to pre-season we’re on a run of four wins on the bounce now so we want to keep that going, although we know it’s more about how the players are applying themselves and developing.
“What I am really looking for in the game is to see signs of the players taking what we’ve been working on in training on to the pitch and hopefully that will happen against Bradford.”
Admission at Billingham Town is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions and, with it being a cup game, is not free to Season Ticket holders.
We’ll have a full report on the game here on the Official Website following the final whistle.
