Craig Hignett was delighted as he was given the response he wanted from the players in their 2-1 victory over Yeovil Town at Huish Park.
The Pools boss had demanded a strong performance from his players following last weekend’s horror-show at Stevenage and they delivered – coming from behind to defeat The Glovers.
Nathan Thomas scored both goals, including a spectacular injury-time decider, and Hignett admitted that it felt good to get back to winning ways.
“We were a lot more resilient than last week, that’s for sure,” he told Pools PlayerHD.
“I thought we were solid in the first half with three at the back, which is something we haven’t really done before, but we weren’t as threatening going forward.
“I was a bit disappointed with their goal but, on the whole, I have to be pleased with the performance and once we changed to a 4-3-3 at half time we looked more dangerous and once we got back in to it we pushed on and looked more likely.
“When you have someone like Nathan (Thomas), if you can stay in games for long enough, he’s liable to come up with something and he’s done it twice today and got us the three points.
“I am delighted for him and delighted for everyone at the Football Club because we took some stick last week – and rightly so – but this week we can enjoy the plaudits from the way we played.
“I had a great view of the second goal – as soon as it left his foot you could see where it was going to go and the keeper had no chance. It would have graced any pitch at any standard.
“As disappointed and upset as I was last week, today I am pleased and proud of the reaction.”
