Pools Youth Team fell to a 3-0 defeat on Saturday as Bradford City took the points in their Youth Alliance League encounter.
John Hewitson’s younger than usual side started the game brightly and created a couple of good opportunities early on but Connor Simpson and Liam Travers just failed to convert.
They were made to pay for those misses when The Bantams took advantage of an individual mistake at the back to get their noses in front at 1-0.
Simpson had a chance to draw Pools level not long afterwards but again City survived and the hosts made the most of the let-off by scoring a second goal before half time.
There were further openings for Simpson, Travers and Jon Weirs after the break as Pools looked for a route back in to the game but the home defence held firm in the face of stern pressure.
And City then made the points safe by making it 3-0 on the break, again Pools playing a part in their own downfall with some sloppiness at the back.
“We really wanted to build on last week’s win over Mansfield but it didn’t happen for us,” admitted Hewitson afterwards.
“Individual errors cost us again and if we keep on making mistakes like that while not taking our chances at the other end then we’ll struggle to win games unfortunately.
“There were some positives from the game, not least the fact than Under 16 players Brooklyn Miller and Daniel Boyle both played ninety minutes and there was also game time for Joe Fell from the Under 16s and Connor Rennison who is an Under 15.”
